A Tune By Four

A Tune By Four A Tune By Four is one of the Chorus' top three quartets. Composed of Lead Bill Sandau, Baritone Ray Spinosa, Bass Lance Mangano, and Baritone Jeff Harris playing the part of a Tenor, the quartet made its first appearance at a private performance for the Sons of Norway in Hayward, CA in early 2007.

Surrounding Chapters

The New Dimension Chorus is not the only Barbershop Chorus in the San Francisco Bay Area. In fact, there are 18 other chapters within 100 miles of the greater Hayward, CA Metropolitan Area. Some of these choruses fall into our Northern California West/Hawaii division, some are in the Northern California East/Northern Nevada division. If you're looking for more chapters and choruses across the country, visit the Barbershop Harmony Locator Page.

Remember that not all choruses are for all people. Some are in a heavy competition phase, some are in a learing process, others are just a bunch of guys who like to sing the old songs, and the rest are somewhere in the middle. Try one or more of these choruses, and find the one that fits you the best. While we hope that the New Dimension Chorus fits you best, we won't hold you back for want of a better match.

Chorus Members

It is a hard fact of our culture today: recreational singing is on the decline. Families no longer gather around the piano for a little pleasure singing. We are rapidly becoming a culture of listeners, rather than singers, content to let others make music for us. SPEBSQSA and the New Dimension Chorus believes it can be otherwise.

Our Society and our Chapter form an ever-growing singing fraternity of men drawn together by their love of the four-part, a cappella, close-harmony style known as barbershop. Our mission is to perpetuate that style by sharing it and our love for it with people of all ages throughout our community and the world; and to be a leader in the cause of preserving and encouraging vocal music as an enjoyable recreational activity and an essential element in one's cultural well-being.

To accomplish this the New Dimension Chorus seeks men who wish to sing harmony in an environment of good fellowship.

Mission Statement

The Chapter will be an ever growing fraternity of men excelling in
the Barbershop style of singing, and entertaining, all the while
participating in community performances and outreach.

Outreach, and Seasonal Performances (i.e., Singing Valentines).
  • To Provide an environment that will encourage and
develop each singer's musical and singing ability, and will also
make singing and performing an enjoyable experience for both the
    singer and the audience.
  • To Increase membership and develop performance
    quartets.
  • To Become the recommended Barbershop Chorus by the
    local cities in our area.

Barbershop Harmony Primer

When most people think "Barbershop," they think of old men in boaters
and armbands warbling some old grampa music. Maybe Meredith
Willson's The Music Man comes to mind. Fifty or
seventy-five years ago, that would probably be an accurate
description. Today, our style of music has grown and evolved into a
higher art form, enjoyed by men and women of all ages.

Sing With Us!

  • No Chorus rehearsalThink you can't sing? Think some people can sing, some can't, and that's it? Nandhu Radhakrishnan, an assistant professor at the University of Missouri, Columbia disagrees with you. According to his research, those who can't sing are those who don't. By simply singing, you can be turned from "I can't sing," to "I can sing." Every Thursday evening, the New Dimension Chorus, presents "Sing in Barbershop-Style," an on-going class to turn those who don't sing into those who can sing. The lessons continue to improve vocal production and ear training for all members. The class begins at 7:00 pm; be sure to arrive early to meet regular chorus members and obtain a welcome packet. 25 November, 2010 7:00pm
